Disaster Response

High-capacity teams ready to deploy to affected areas.

SEARCH has led cultural resource monitoring and mitigation efforts following natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Michael, and Hurricane Maria. We also served as the maritime archaeology lead across the four US states affected by the BP Gulf Oil Spill. State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) and departments of transportation across the US have contracted us to coordinate and monitor flood management and infrastructure improvement programs. We also provided immediate support for documentation of historic structures on the Texas coast in response to Hurricanes Hanna and Laura. We wrote the Department of Defense’s Cultural Resource Emergency Management Guidebook.
